In a sad incident, nearly five individuals were killed and more than 20 were injured when an SUV rammed into a Christmas parade in the US state of Wisconsin on Sunday.

The spectators watched in horror as a vehicle plowed into a Christmas Parade in Waukesha, a Milwaukee suburb.

11 adults and 12 children are among the injured.  They were immediately rushed to nearby six area hospitals. The exact number of fatalities has yet not been disclosed as families are still being identified.

Police Chief Dan Thompson told the media that no further information will be releasead until families were notified.

Video footage shows a red SUV rammed into band members and cheerleaders who were moving ahead abreast in close formation, striking  & scattering the crowd.

Briefing the press, Thompson further informed that a “person of interest” has been taken into custody and that officers had recovered the involved vehicle. 

A white house official informed that President Joe Biden has receieved a briefing on the incident and is closely monitoring the situation.  

The White House, ” is closely monitoring the situation in Waukesha and our hearts go out to everyone who has been impacted by this terrible incident. We have reached out to state and local officials to offer any support and assistance as needed,” read a White House communiqué.

The incident comes after a tumultuous week in Wisconsin, which saw the acquittal of Kyle Rittenhouse, an American teen who fatally shot two men during protests and rioting against police abuse last year in Kenosha, which is only 50 miles (80 kilometres) from Waukesha.
