Assam: Sub Committee on Cultural Identity holds crucial meet in Sivasagar

The Sub Committee on Cultural Identity, one of the seven sub-groups constituted by the Himanta Biswa Sarma led Assam government to study various aspects relating to the indigenous Assamese Muslim communities in the state, held a crucial meeting in Sivasagar today.

The meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Wasbir Hussain, who heads the sub-committee. This was the second meeting in two days with the panel collecting suggestions and recommendations from minority community representatives. The last meeting was held in Jorhat yesterday.

During the meet, the participants lauded the initiative the efforts of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in initiating these dialogues with the indigenous Assamese communities across the state. They added that the move was something that has been lacking all these years. They also came forward with various suggestions to protect, protect and preserve the distinct cultural identity of the indigenous Muslims.

Meanwhile sub-committee Chairman Wasbir Hussain informed that a number of valuable suggestions were made by the community representatives during the meeting. He added that suggestions given by the participants will be incorporated in the recommendations submitted to the state government by the sub-committee.

The meeting was attended by eminent Muslim citizens from the districts of Sivasagar, Charaideo, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia. As mentioned, the participants lauded the initiative the efforts of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in initiating these dialogues.
