At least five people were killed in Assam’s Dima Hasao district late Thursday night after their trucks were attacked and set ablaze by armed miscreants.

Police are suspecting the hand of Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA) members behind the incident.

As per sources, the DNLA militants opened indiscriminate fire at 5 trucks and later set them ablaze. The incident took place around 8:30 pm on Thursday at Dayangmukh in Dima Hasao district.

Assam Police said the terrorists fired several rounds at the truck drivers and other people before setting seven of the trucks on fire. Security personnel rushed to the spot – Rangerbeel on Umrangsu Lanka Road – and recovered the bodies.

Police and the Assam Rifles unit are conducting a massive combing operation in the region, which is a little over 200 km from Guwahati.

The trucks were carrying coal and other material for a nearby cement manufacturing plant.
