Unidentified miscreants on Sunday night lobbed two petrol bombs at the residence of Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma.

The incident happened around 10.15 PM last night when vehicle-borne attackers lobbed the bombs at the premises of his personal residence at Third Mile in Upper Shillong.

Sources informed that no one was injured in the incident.

The state government has imposed a curfew in Shillong and banned mobile internet services in at least four districts as vandalism and arson rocked the state capital and nearby areas on Independence Day.

On the other hand, police opened fire in the tense Mawlai area last night. It is not immediately known as to what prompted the police to open fire. Details are awaited.

Meanwhile, Meghalaya Home Minister Lakhmen Rymbui resigned from his position amid violence in Shillong. Rymbui wrote to CM Conrad Sangma asking to be relieved of his Home portfolio.

Rymbui is also the State Education Minister, a charge he would continue to hold as per indications.
