Indian wrestler Ravi Kumar Dahiya clinched the silver medal on Thursday after losing in the final of men’s 57 kg freestyle category to Russian Olympic Committee’s Zavur Uguev at the Tokyo Olympics.

The Russian wrestler registered a 7-4 win against Dahiya. Ravi had earlier lost to Uguev at the 2019 World Championship.

Ravi had reached the finals by toppling Nurislam Sanayev of Kazakhstan, a former World Championships silver-medalist, in the semis. He had come back from 2-9 down to achieve a victory by fall.

This is the fifth medal for India at the Tokyo Olympics and the second silver of the campaign.

Ravi Kumar is the fifth Indian wrestler after KD Jadhav, Sushil Kumar, Yogeshwar Dutt, and Sakshi Malik to finish on the Olympic podium.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi taking to Twitter congratulated the wrestler for winning the silver medal.

“Ravi Kumar Dahiya is a remarkable wrestler! His fighting spirit and tenacity are outstanding. Congratulations to him for winning the Silver Medal at Tokyo 2020. India takes great pride in his accomplishments,” PM Modi tweeted.
