All eyes are now on Wednesday’s bout where Assam girl Lovlina Borgohain will be facing Turkey’s B Surmeneli in the women’s welterweight category semi-final match at the Tokyo Olympics, aiming to become the first ever Indian boxer to advance to the Games final.
While Lovlina has assured a bronze medal for herself, she now aims to fight ahead in the quest for gold.
People of Assam are now busy in prayers to seek divine intervention to ensure Lovlina’s victory tomorrow that she advances to the final match.
Meanwhile, the proceedings in the Assam Assembly would be adjourned for 30 minutes tomorrow during Lovlina’s semi-final bout. She will lock horns with world champion Busenaz Surmeneli of Turkey.
The 23-year-old boxer has already assured India of another Olympics medal after defeating Chinese Taipei’s Nien-Chin Chen in the quarter final of women’s welterweight category.
A two-time world championship bronze-medallist, Lovlina is the first female boxer from Assam to have qualified for the Olympics.
