Prime Minister Narendra Modi will invite the Indian Olympics contingent to the Red Fort as special guests on Independence Day. The celebrations for the programme this year is expected to be low-key amid the pandemic.

The Prime Minister will also meet and interact with all the athletes who are part of the contingent.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi lauded the efforts of Indian sportspersons who are participating in the ongoing Tokyo Olympics and highlighted that this time, the highest number of players had qualified for the games.

India is being represented by its largest-ever contingent of over 120 athletes at the Tokyo Olympics, including the highest female representation of 56 sportspersons.

“This time, the highest number of players from India have qualified in the Olympics. Remember, this has been done while battling the biggest disaster of 100 years,” the Prime Minister said this afternoon in a virtual address in Gujarat.
