13-day district level celebrations of 77th I-Day concludes in Sikkim

The 13- day district-level celebration of the 77th Independence Day in Sikkim concluded today at the Chakung playground in a good note.

Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, along with his spouse, Sarda Tamang, graced the event as chief guests.

Addressing the gathering, CM Tamang extended his warm greetings on the occasion. He said that the country is celebrating its 77th Independence Day in the spirit of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. He said that, under the able leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the nation is thriving while bridging the gap between communities and states.

CM Tamang also praised the PM for his initiative in celebrating this year’s Independence Day with the innovative campaign ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’.

He added that around 1147 wards in Sikkim will be participating in the MMMD campaign starting tomorrow. Likewise, he also urged the audience to join in the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign under AKAM celebrations.

Walking down the memory lane of his political journey, he expressed his sincere gratitude towards the people of Chakung for showing confidence in electing him as their representative over the years and added that he is forever indebted.

Simultaneously, he also paid his due respect to all the former political leaders for their guidance in shaping his political career and giving him opportunities to grow.

The CM also took pride in informing the public that Sikkim has been ranked 3rd among states with the least poverty as per NITI Aayog’s Multidimensional Poverty Index at 2.08%.

Adding to this, he said that Sikkim has been placed in the 2nd position among the North East States and the 5th position in the country in the Happiness Index.

Furthermore, he also enumerated some of the achievements of the state in the past 4 years, especially when the state was addressing the pandemic along with the world. And spoke on the government’s approach to development challenges.

Taking into account today’s demand for eco-tourism, he encouraged all youths to explore entrepreneurship while taking advantage of the available schemes and infrastructure.

In his concluding speech, he extended his sincere gratitude to the retired army personnel for their acts of valor in safeguarding the nation and took inspiration from their sacrifices.

On the celebratory occasion, Ratna Bahadur Bhujel was awarded the Bravery Award for his act of valor in a time of emergency.

The CM also distributed house-upgradation to beneficiaries, laptops to nine college students, letters of appointment to 86 beneficiaries, financial assistance to 41 students, and to eight institutes/samaj ghars from the Chief Minister’s Discretionary Grant (CMDG).

Earlier, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang appealed to the citizens of the state to observe and embrace ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ not just as a celebration but as a duty.
