Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said that he has been in touch with his counterparts in all neighboring states with which Assam has a long-standing border dispute, adding that he has urged the chief ministers to maintain status quo.
In fact, CM Sarma has reached out to his Mizoram counterpart Zoramthanga through a letter wherein he stated there will be no conflict if both the sides maintain status quo on the basis of satellite imagery. Sarma said that remote sensing technologies can be used to ascertain the ground situation to resolve the issue amicably.
Further, the Chief Minister highlighted that border dispute has been a perennial issue that Assam has been witnessing with its neighbouring states, namely Arunachal, Nagaland, Meghalaya and Mizoram. He said issues will keep on erupting, but what is required is handling these issues in a matured manner.
Additionally, talking on the next course of action to resolve the Assam-Mizoram border issue, Sarma said Chief Secretaries of both the states will engage in bilateral talks at the national capital on July 9.
