The Congress leader tendered his resignation to Assembly speaker Biswajit Daimary, in presence of BJP leader and state Water resource minister Pijush Hazarika this morning. He has also written to AICC president Sonia Gandhi apprising her of his reasons for quitting the party.
The four-time MLA said he will join the saffron party on 21 June.
Speaking to the media, Kurmi alleged top leaders of the congress including Ripun Bora, Rockybul Hussain, among others, have destroyed the party and holding multiple positions within the party.
Earlier, Kurmi stated that many top Congress faces will be joining the BJP, which includes Angkita Dutta, the party’s candidate from the Amguri seat and daughter of former APCC chief late Anjan Dutta.
