The Assam government on Tuesday decided to extend the ongoing curfew in the state with slight relaxations in view of the dip in COVID-19 cases, which will remain in effect till June 22.
Health Minister Keshab Mahanta made the announcement during a press meet in Dima Hasao. Here’s what has changed under the new standard operating procedure (SOP) issued today.
In Guwahati, the curfew has been relaxed by one hour to 2 PM. All shops, commercial establishments, restaurants, dhabas, government and private offices will shut down by 1 pm on all days.
With the Covid situation still grim in 5 to 6 districts of the state, inter-district travel shall remain suspended till June 22.
Significantly, the Health Minister informed that lockdown may be imposed in at least 5 districts post June 22 if the situation doesn’t improve. He informed that the government will closely monitor the situation in these districts for the next 1 week.
The curfew will remain in force from 5 PM to 5 AM in 8 districts of the state where situation has significantly improved. These districts include – Chirang, Udalguri, West Karbi Anglong, Bongaigaon, Majuli, Dima Hasao, South Salmara and Charaideo.
Weekly markets and religious places will remain shut and the restrictions earlier imposed will continue to be in place, informed health minister Keshab Mahanta.
Meanwhile, all state government employees, who have received the second dose of the vaccine, have been asked to attend office from Monday.
