Manipur reported its first casualty due to Black fungus on late Tuesday night. This comes after the state detected the first two cases of black fungus or mucormycosis on Tuesday in separate hospitals.
As per sources, the deceased, a 46-year-old male from Imphal West was undergoing treatment for COVID-19 at Shija hospital in Imphal.
The other patient, a 49-year old male, is also admitted at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) hospital for the treatment of Coronavirus. Both the hospitals are in state capital Imphal.
Meanwhile the state health authority has asked all hospitals, health centers and clinics to report such cases failing which will attract actions.
It needs to be mentioned that these are the first cases of black fungus infection outside Assam in the Northeast.
So far, Assam has registered one Black Fungus death while there has been another suspected case at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital.
