BJP strongman Himanta Biswa Sarma is all set to be the next chief minister of Assam. Sarma will replace Sarbananda Sonowal to lead the first ever non-Congress government for a second term.

The swearing-in ceremony is likely to be held at the Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra on Monday.

The announcement came after the newly-elected legislative members of the assembly ratified the decision during a meeting today. He was elected as the leader of the BJP legislature party, paving the way for him to be the next chief minister, seven days after the BJP-led alliance had retained power in the State.

The meet was held in the presence of BJP central leaders Narendra Singh Tomar, Arun Singh, among others where Himanta’s claim over the top post was upheld by the MLAs.

Earlier in the day, Sonowal had resigned as the chief minister of Assam making way for Sarma to be the next Chief Minister of the BJP-led coalition government.
