Rubbishing media reports about a possible lockdown during Bihu festival in Assam, health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said there is no such plan and Bihu will be celebrated with fanfare.
He said COVID-19 testing will be intensified in coming days to ensure Bihu celebration in a grand manner.
“Nevertheless, no lockdown, Bihu will be celebrated with fanfare,” said Sarma.
“We will conduct more tests so that we can celebrate our Bihu. Last year, the artistes of Assam incurred huge financial losses as we couldn’t celebrate Bihu,” he added.
The minister stated that government will issue a standard operating procedure (SOP) for Bihu celebration.
“We may restrict Bihu functions after 12 AM. We will issue the SOP regulating social distancing,” he said.
