Polling begins for third phase of Assembly polls in Assam

Polling has begun for the third and final phase of Assembly elections in Assam across 40 constituencies. Four assembly seats in Guwahati, besides 8 seats in BTR and the constituencies

Polling has begun for the third and final phase of Assembly elections in Assam across 40 constituencies.

Four assembly seats in Guwahati, besides 8 seats in BTR and the constituencies in lower Assam is going to polls in the final phase.

337 candidates are in fray for 40 seats including 25 female candidates. Close to 80 lakh voters are expected to exercise their franchise across 12 districts.

In view of the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic, the Election Commission has decided to allow maximum 1,000 electors in a Polling Station instead of earlier stipulation of 1,500 electors.

Postal Ballot facility has been extended to the electors who are COVID-19 positive or suspect as certified by competent authority and are in-home or institutional quarantine along with those marked as Persons with Disabilities (PwD) and above the age of 80 years.
