In Shillong, quick action and stringent measures are being demanded over the Golf Links assault case, where 3 youth were allegedly attacked with beer bottles by unknown miscreants.

Meghalaya Health Minister AL Hek on Wednesday said that the incident in Golf Links was not a clash between ethnic communities but between people who were drinking there.

Reacting to a query about Golf Links being unsafe, Mr Hek said the area is a private property and is meant for playing Golf only. The minister added that sometimes it is difficult to monitor the area as it is forested and open from all sides.

Meanwhile, North Shillong legislator Adelbert Nongrum said that to avoid a communal conflict, the State Government and the police should not take this issue lightly. He added that ultimate goal was not to compensate the victims but to arrest the key accused.

Nongkrem MLA and Chairman of the Meghalaya State Planning Board Lambor Malngiang, said that the culprits should be nabbed at the earliest and there should be no further delay. He added that this is the only way to bring the situation back to normal.

It may be mentioned that three youths from Wahkaji in South West Khasi Hills were allegedly assaulted by around 20 people with beer bottles at Golf Links, Shillong. One of the three victims succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.

No arrests have been made in the incident so far, but the police has repeatedly clarified that there was no communal angle in the case.
