In a big blow to the Congress ahead of Assam assembly polls, former MP and All India Mahila Congress president Sushmita Dev has resigned from the party on Saturday.

In a shocking turn of events, Dev tendered her resignation to the party leadership over disagreement arising out of seat sharing and awarding of party tickets to certain candidates.

Dev handed over her resignation to the party leadership at Taj Vivanta hotel in Guwahati, where the party is engaged in fervent meeting over the issue of announcing their list of candidates. Reportedly, party workers are persuading the former Silchar MP to rethink her decision to resign.

Meanwhile, not just Sushmita Dev but Congress leader Siddique Ahmed is also reportedly threatening to quit the party over serious differences. Ahmed is also reportedly unhappy with the distribution of party tickets to candidates. Ahmed has also reportedly expressed dissatisfaction as most of the constituencies in the Barak Valley have been given away to All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF).
