Amidst the crackdown by the military in neighbouring Myanmar, the Mizoram Police have detained three Myanmarese policemen who crossed over into the Indian territory on Wednesday.
As per reliable inputs, the three men crossed into Indian territory near Lungkawlh village in Mizoram’s Serchhip district on Wednesday afternoon after they were chased by the military for refusing to carry out certain orders given to them. The village is 13 kilometers from the border with Myanmar.
Meanwhile, the three individuals are currently in police custody.
It may be mentioned that last week, Chief Minister Zoramthanga had said that the government and the people of Mizoram are ready to welcome any ethnic Mizo or anyone persecuted for participating in the pro-democracy movement in Myanmar, with open arms.
It’s been over a month since Myanmar’s powerful military ousted the elected government of leader Aung San Suu Kyi in a coup. India shares a 1,643 km long border with Myanmar, where more than 50 people, mostly peaceful protesters, have been killed since the February 1 military coup.
