The All Manipur Christian Organization along with the All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur, has expressed serious concerns over the government for serving eviction notice only to churches in Imphal. The body have termed the move unsecular, as out of 188 religious places cleared from eviction not a single church was included in the list.

With the Supreme Court ruling for no religious building on public space across the country, in pursuance of the order, altogether 9 churches in Imphal has come under eviction notices recently from the State government.

AMUCO and ATSUM have today asked the government to review the notice, or the organizations will be forced to go on a stir.

AMUCO President S Prim Vaiphei said, after the Supreme Court order, the State constituted a committee headed by Chief Secretary in 2019 to scrutinize religious places in public spaces.

After the scrutiny, 188 religious places were provided clearance or regularized, however not a single church was included in the list, instead eviction notice were served only to churches.

The nine Churches, which received eviction notices, are located in New Checkon Tribal Colony in Imphal and Leimakhong.
