Meghalaya Congress MLA David Nongrum passed away in Shillong on Tuesday morning. Nongrum, who as per doctors had a history of hypertension, died of a cardiac arrest.

The two-time Mawryngkneng MLA was reportedly brought dead to NEIGRIHMS. He was 42.

David Nongrum was first elected to the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly in 2013 as an independent candidate. Later, he joined the Congress in 2018 and retained the seat.

Nongrum was the son of veteran Congress leader and former Meghalaya speaker Charles Pyngrope.

His untimely demise has shocked the political fraternity in the state.

Condoling Nongrum’s demise, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma tweeted, “Extremely saddened by the sudden demise of David Nongrum. He was a young, dynamic and vocal leader who executed an impactful tenure.”

Tripura Royal scion Pradyot Deb Barman also expressed his shock over the demise of his fellow schoolmate from St. Edmunds.

“Shocked to hear that David Nongrum MLA from Congress and fellow school mate from St Edmunds passed away at 42 following a heart attack. Public life and pressures have its own fallacy, my condolences to former speaker and his father Charles Pyngrope on his loss,” Pradyot Deb Barman tweeted.
