After 12 days of swearing-in, the newly formed council of the UPP(L), BJP and GSP combine will have to prove its majority in the floor of the BTC assembly on Thursday.

Briefing newspersons, a day ahead of the floor test, UPP(L) chief and BTC CEM Pramod Boro said that the coalition has sufficient numbers to prove its majority. Reacting to Hagrama Mohilary’s appeal for a coalition of regional parties to form the new council, Pramod Boro said that the BPF can lend its support to the coalition externally. Boro also ruled out any further change in the political dynamics.

Top BJP leader and party’s face in the Bodo heartland during campaigning in the run-up to the BTC polls Himanta Biswa Sarma exuded confidence that the Pramod Boro-led council will easily win the floor test. Sarma added that the new council under Pramod Boro’s leadership would be able to address the grievances of the people in the Bodo areas.

Meanwhile, BJP leader Biswajit Daimary also exuded confidence that the UPP(L), BJP and GSP coalition will win the floor test. Daimary also said that Hagrama Mohilary should have raised the idea of forging an alliance of regional parties much before and that the BPF seemed to have got a lesson from its past mistakes.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Gauhati High Court ordered a floor test for the Pramod Boro-led council to prove its majority before December 26.

The court order came after Hagrama Mohilary-led BPF moved the high court complaining of violation of several constitutional provisions while appointing the new cem and other members of the BTC.

The petitioner complained that despite being the single largest party, BPF was not given the opportunity to prove its majority on the floor of the house.
