A sub-inspector of Sikkim police has been arrested for his involvement in the seizure of what can be termed as the Himalayan State’s biggest-ever haul of contraband items.

Acting on specific inputs, drugs worth over Rs 10 lakh was seized by the state police on Friday besides busting a drugs smuggling racket.

The consignment includes 23,184 Spasmo Proxivon capsules, 576 files of the same drug, 100 files of N10 capsules, 52 gram Brown Sugar and 457 bottles of cough syrup.

The contraband items were seized following the search of a taxi coming from Siliguri at Topkhani near Singtam town. The taxi was driven by the Assistant sub-inspector of Sikkim Police.

Police also raided the house of one suspect associated with the seizure and recovered 3,684 Spasmo Proxivon loose capsules, 380 capsules of N10, 21.24 grams of Brown Sugar along with cash worth Rs 1.30 lakh.

The market value of the drug seizure is estimated to be around Rs 12 to 14 lakh.

The entire operation was led by SP East Shiva Prasad Yellasari along with SHO Singtam Santa Gurung and other staff. Altogether 5 persons have been arrested in connection with the drug seizures.
