The Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organisations (CoMSO), an umbrella body of various pressure groups pushing for implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state, organised a black flag protest on Friday in different parts of Meghalaya over the Centre’s delay in implementing their genuine demand.

Rallies were taken out in the state capital and the districts with the protestors carrying black flags.

Banners were put up in many public places of Shillong urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to implement the ILP without further delay in the entire Meghalaya.

“Modi we need ILP, Amit Shah we need ILP, we need ILP…,” one of the banners stated.
CoMSO activists also put up black flags on private and public vehicles.

Speaking to mediapersons, Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) Vice President Donboklang Kharlyngdoh said that all members from the district level and civil sub-division headquarters took part in the protest.

Kharlyngdoh mentioned that they are fed up with the delay tactics of the Central government. He said that there is no other way to check the influx in the state other than ILP and have urged the ministers and MP’s to take up the matter with the Central leadership.

He further added that the organisation will send a letter to the Prime Minister’s Office raising the issue of the implementation of ILP in the state.
