The Prime Minister recalled Borphukan as an outstanding leader and strategist, who played a pivotal role in protecting the unique culture of Assam.
“On the special occasion of Lachit Diwas, we bow to the courageous Lachit Borphukan. He was an outstanding leader and strategist, who played a pivotal role in protecting the unique culture of Assam. He also worked extensively towards empowering the poor and downtrodden,” Modi tweeted.

Remembering the legendary Ahom General on his birth anniversary, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said, “Bir Lachit Barphukan’s name is wrought bright in the annals of history as the epitome of valour and patriotism. His chronicles of heroism have inspired generations. My reverence to the great Ahom General on his birth anniversary. #LachitDiwas.”
