Former Assam CM Tarun Gogoi passed away at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Guwahati. He was 86.

After a long battle with COVID-19, the three-time Assam Chief Minister passed away on Monday at 5:34 PM after multi-organ failure.

Gogoi was diagnosed with Covid in August end, but later battled post-Covid complications after testing negative.

The veteran Congress leader is survived by his wife – Dolly Gogoi, daughter Chandrima Gogoi and son Gaurav Gogoi – Kalibar Lok Sabha MP.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has cancelled all his official programmes in eastern Assam and is flying back to Guwahati following the news of Tarun Gogoi’s deteriorating health on Monday morning.

Officials said that Chief Minsiter Sonowal is rushing back to Guwahati by a IAF chopper.

Lakhimpur MP Pradhan Baruah, Dibrugarh MLA Prashanta Phukan and Sadiya MLA Bolin Chetia is also accompanying the Chief Minister.

CM Sonowal attended a programme in Tinsukia and was scheduled to be the Chief guest of the Central Lachit Divas observation at Dhemechi in Dibrugarh district tomorrow.
