A major confrontation broke out between police and some section of locals as eviction drive continued along ICP Moreh bypass road on Thursday.

The incident occurred at around 1:30 in the afternoon when security forces along with PWD workers carried out the eviction drive at Shijang Veng near the Integrated Check Post at Moreh in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district.

As per reports, four police personnel and some protesters were injured in the confrontation. Meanwhile, the police have also detained three women protesters.

The confrontation broke out between the officials and protesters as they started taking off their clothes in a bid to carry out a semi-nude protest.

Few moments later, the irate protestors also pelted stones towards the security force. Meanwhile, in order to control the situation, the police also resorted to firing tear gas shell and smoke bombs.

Meanwhile, the protesters alleged that the district administration has carried out eviction in the area before delivering fair compensation to the affected residents.

On the other hand, the district administration said that all the eligible residents along the bypass road were already compensated and that fair compensation had already been delivered to all the genuine claimants.
