The iron bailey bridge laid across the Irang river along NH-37 has snapped yet again, barely a week after it was restored after the old bridge had collapsed last week.

According to reports, the new Irang Bridge at Taubam village under Noney district which was undergoing reconstruction collapsed at around 11:15 AM on Wednesday but fortunately, there was no report of any casualties.

When enquired about the incident, Manipur CM N Biren Singh said that relentless day and night efforts have been given to restore the bridge by Army personnel, however, the bridge slipped during assembling.

He further informed that within 6 months, foundation for the new RRC bridge along the national highway will be laid and funds have already been sanctioned in this regard.

The Manipur CM also added that the Irang bridge will be restored soon within 2 to 3 weeks.

It may be mentioned here that the newly installed iron bridge across Irang River has slipped into the river barely a day after CM Biren Singh had expressed hoped that the bridge would become operational again by November 14.

This has now raised serious questions on whether it is not high time the govt furnishes a more technologically advanced bridge with sturdier built along NH-37 which is the main life line of the state.
