Parag Bhuyan, a senior journalist based in Tinsukia’s Kakopathar died after being hit by a speeding car in front of his residence on Wednesday.
After the incident, the journalist was rushed to a private nursing home in Dibrugarh in critical condition, where he succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment.
Bhuyan is the younger brother of former minister and Convenor of the newly floated AJP Jagadish Bhuyan. He was also the Vice President of Tinsukia District Journalists’ Association.
Taking to Twitter, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal expressed his grief over the untimely death of the television journalist.
“Saddened to learn about the untimely demise of Parag Bhuyan, a reputed journalist and Vice-President of Tinsukia District Journalists’ Association. My sincere condolences to his bereaved family members & well-wishers,” Sonowal tweeted.
Meanwhile, the Guwahati Press Club has demanded a high-level inquiry to probe the cause and circumstances leading to the death of the journalist and urged the Assam DGP to form an SIT to investigate the case in a time-bound manner.
