As many as 1,000 former activists of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati on Wednesday.

The former AASU activists joined the saffron party in the presence of Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Assam BJP president Ranjit Kumar Dass and party’s national general secretary Dilip Saikia.

“I welcome you to the BJP with firm beliefs and expectations,” Sonowal said in his speech.
