The Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered release of Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami and other co-accused on interim bail in an abetment to suicide case.
A Bench headed by Justice Chandrachud said that Arnab Goswami and two other accused be released on interim bail on a bond of Rs 50,000. It directs the Commissioner of Police to ensure the order is followed immediately.
Goswami has approached the SC after the Bombay high court on Monday refused to grant interim bail to him and two others in the case and had asked them to move to local court for relief.
Meanwhile, Assam Health and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his happiness over the apex court’s decision to grant bail to Arnab Goswami.
“I am extremely pleased that Hon #SupremeCourt has granted an interim bail to #ArnabGoswami. With this, I sincerely hope the wicked witch hunt against @republic Editor in Chief, and the channel, comes to an end. Justice prevails! #ArnabIsBack,” Sarma tweeted.
