In a major setback to the BJP in Mizoram, the incumbent party president of Chakma district Prema Ranjan Chakma resigned from the saffron party and joined the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) on Monday.
The development comes after a few months after his predecessor and ex-MLA AB Chakma had resigned from his position citing ‘health issues’.
Shortly after joining the MNF, Prema Ranjan Chakma said there is widespread public disillusionment with the BJP’s plan and policies in CADC. There is no scope for BJP’s growth in Mizoram.
The party has miserably failed to fulfill the promises made in the run-up to CADC’s MDC General Election and state Assembly Election in 2018, he said.
None of the pre-poll promises made by BJP’s central leaders, relating to direct funding, 6th schedule amendment to enhance the district council powers, etc. has been fulfilled.
Praising the ruling MNF government for their efficient governance and bringing development on all fronts, he said the party’s plans, policies and actions reflect its genuine concern regarding the development and empowerment of the masses.
