Dramatic scenes were witnessed in Dispur on Wednesday as Assam Pradesh Congress President Ripun Bora and former Minister Rockybul Hussain were arrested while marching towards the Assam Secretariat.
The Congress today launched a scathing attack on the ruling BJP government in the State, accusing Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal of being involved in the scam relating to the recruitment of Sub-Inspectors in Assam Police.
As the Congress mulls to cash in on the scam, with the polls to the State Assembly scheduled for next year, Assam Congress Chief Ripun Bora said that the party will take the issue to every household in the State. The party is also planning to stage protest in front of the offices of the Superintendent of Police of every district on October 5 against the scam.
Later, APCC president Ripun Bora and former State Minister Rockybul Hussain along with other party leaders were arrested from the Manbendra Sarma Complex near Dispur in Guwahati while protesting against the Assam Police SI recruitment scam. They were arrested while they took out a rally and were moving towards the Assam Secretariat.
The Congress organized the rally in demand for a judicial inquiry into the probe by a sitting judge of the High Court.
On the other hand, the APCC President rubbished claims earlier made by Assam BJP President Ranjit Dass and State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma that one of the prime accused in the case, Dibon Deka was not involved in the day-to-day affairs of the party.
Bora, while briefing the media displayed a bunch of photographs, showing Dibon Deka with a host of top party leaders including former MP Bijoya Chakraborty, senior party leader Siddhartha Bhattacharya, BJP’s central leader Ram Madhav and many more.
The Sub-Inspector recruitment scam in the state has certainly snowballed into a major political debate with the Congress as of now on the front foot and the Government trying to shield itself from the barrage of attacks by the opposition.
