Legendary Singer SP Balasubrahmanyam, who had tested positive for COVID-19, passed away on Friday at a Chennai hospital, aged 74.
Balasubrahmanyam was admitted to Chennai’s MGM hospital after being diagnosed with mild symptoms of coronavirus, his condition had deteriorated after a week at the hospital and he had to be shifted to the Intensive Care Unit on 13 August.
The news of the sudden deterioration of the health of one of India’s greatest playback singers was announced on Thursday by the hospital in Chennai where the singer had admitted himself on August 5.
Authorities had announced last month that he had been shifted to the ICU and was on life support. Later his family had assured fans the singer was on the road to recovery.
Balasubrahmanyam, who has worked across Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Hindi and Malayalam film industries and rendered thousands of ever-green songs, was admitted to the hospital in Chennai on August 5 following complaints of cold and “on and off” fever for two-three days then.
