Along with the rest of the world, World Rhino Day is being observed in different parts of Assam on September 22. An awareness programme was organised at Kaziranga National Park, the land of one-horned Rhino to mark the occasion.

On the eve of the World Rhino Day 2020, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal through his Twitter handle appealed to celebrate the day and pledge to protect and conserve the gentle, giant animal.

Sonowal tweeted, “The Greater One-Horned Rhinoceros is Assam’s pride, and protecting them is our responsibility. On #WorldRhinoDay, become a part of our efforts to conserve these beautiful animals and together ‘Save the Rhino’.”

World Rhino Day is held annually on 22nd September to raise awareness for the five remaining rhinoceros species left in the wild: the Sumatran, Javan, Black, Greater one-horned, and Southern White as well as remembering rhino species sadly already lost to extinction.

The documentary ‘Save This Rhino–India’ by Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen  that focuses on the conversation of one-horned rhinos of Kaziranga National Park was premiered on the National Geographic Channel at 01:00 PM(IST) and repeat telecast at 09:00 PM (IST).

Kevin Pietersen on Monday took to Twitter to inform about the long-awaited documentary’s premiere.

“TOMORROW – 1 pm IST on @NatGeoIndia WILD! PLEASE DO NOT MISS IT! #WorldRhinoDay RhinocerosFlag of India,” Pietersen tweeted.
