The Kamrup (M) district has recorded the highest number of COVID-19 deaths in Assam, said Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma while addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Saturday.
The death toll in the district currently stands at 64. Kamrup (Metro) district is followed by Dibrugarh with 39 deaths reported due to COVID-19.
On the other hand, Cachar, Tinsukia, Karimganj and Kamrup (Rural) districts reported 25, 20, 18 and 17 deaths respectively.
So far, the state has recorded 286 fatalities due to the viral infection.
The coronavirus cases tally in Assam surpassed the 1-lakh mark on Friday. More than 26,000 individuals have tested positive for the novel Coronavirus in Guwahati city alone.
However, many people in the city seems to be least bothered about the gravity of the situation. Severe violation of weekend lockdown has been witnessed in the city as people defied the government directives and ventured out of their homes.
Contrary to this, the health department has been making relentless efforts to control the situation since the very first day.
