After rejecting the ruling PDA’s offer to re-join the Joint Legislators Forum on Naga Peace Talks, the opposition NPF in Nagaland on Wednesday resolved to constitute its own committee called the Political Affairs Mission to interact with the negotiating parties and the bridge the gap, if any, between the entities.

The decision was taken in the meeting of the Working Committee of the Naga People’s Front held at the party’s central office in Kohima.

The closed door meeting which lasted for around four and half hours was chaired by party President Shurhozelie Liezietsu.

Talking exclusive to Northeast Live after the meeting, NPF president Liezietsu said that this is a very crucial phase for settlement of the Naga issue and while the NPF appreciated the PDA’s invitation to join the Joint Legislator’s Forum again, it was too late in the day to do so. He also informed that the NPF working committee during the meeting adopted a 6-point resolution.

The NPF President added that the party fully endorses the decisions and actions of its legislators to boycott the one-day Assembly session and withdrawing from the Joint Legislators Forum.

He said that apart from the pandemic the Naga Political issue is at a very crucial stage and the members wanted more time to discuss these issues but the Speaker refused to extend the time.

Liezietsu was of the opinion that JLF is a very important body which can influence different agencies and the NPF legislators had pressed for JLF meetings a number of times to discuss these issues but the Chief Minister did not give any proper attention.

Commenting on the overall political scenario Liezietsu said that different agencies put up different agendas and ideas to confuse the situation but for NPF, the stand is clear, a settlement which is honorable, acceptable and inclusive.

Further commenting on the dual role played by the Governor RN Ravi, the NPF President said that people should not mix the two roles.

The president was of the view that the Governor had rightly pointed out that law and order in the state has collapsed and added that extortion and Naga political issue were two different things and when underground cadres are involved in extortion it falls under the state law and order which should not be mixed up with the Naga political issue.
