Former Goa Governor Satya Pal Malik was on Wednesday sworn in as the 19th Governor of Meghalaya during a ceremony at the Raj Bhavan in Shillong.

The oath of office and secrecy was administered by Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court Biswanath Somadder, in presence of Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and his cabinet colleagues.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh, Justice Hamarsan Singh Thangkhiew, Justice Wanlura Diengdoh, Director General of Police R Chandranathan and other officials attended the swearing-in ceremony.

Malik succeeded Tathagata Roy who completed his five-year tenure on the gubernatorial post.

Talking to newsmen, the new Governor said that he will work in cooperation with the State government and will focus on development.

Meanwhile, CM Conrad Sangma taking to Twitter welcomed the new Governor on behalf of the Meghalaya government and its people.

“Attended the swearing-in ceremony at Raj Bhavan, Shillong this evening. On behalf of the Government and the people of Meghalaya, I welcome our new Hon’ble Governor Sh. Satya Pal Malik Ji to our State,” tweeted Sangma.

A Rashtrapati Bhavan communique on Tuesday said Malik, Governor of Goa, is transferred and appointed as Governor of Meghalaya.
