The total number of COVID-19 positive cases in Assam crossed the 40,000-mark on Friday after 1,862 fresh cases were detected out of 38,324 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.
With a positivity rate of 4.85%, the overall tally in the state has now reached 40,269.
Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, “1862 COVID cases detected out of 38324 tests in 24 hrs. Positivity rate- 4.85% Kamrup (M): 281 Kamrup (R): 202, Cachar: 140, Sonitpur: 129, D’garh: 117, Nagaon: 114, Jorhat: 105
Meanwhile, 4 more patients succumbed to their infection on Friday. The deceased have been identified as Manik Saha (68) of Hojai, Minu Banik (30) of Kamrup (M), Gopal Das (68) of Jorhat and Bijay Sarkar (59) of Dibrugarh.
On the other hand, continuing an impressive recovery rate, 1,277 more COVID-19 patients were discharged from different hospitals and Covid care centres in the state, taking the total recoveries to 30,357.
In another feat for the Assam health department, over 5,000 tests were conducted in Guwahati in a single day, out of which only 251 samples or 4.89% tested positive.
As many as 5,128 samples were tested in Guwahati on Friday of which 251 samples were found positive. It may be mentioned that the Assam Health department is targeting to test 50 thousand samples per day.
