The number of COVID-19 cases in Nagaland crossed the 100 mark on Saturday after detection of 13 new cases in a span of 24 hours, taking the overall tally to 107.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Nagaland crossed the 100 mark on Saturday after detection of 13 new cases in a span of 24 hours, taking the overall tally to 107.

The fresh cases in the state were detected among Chennai returnees. All 13 patients were lodged at a quarantine facility in Dimapur since their arrival in a Shramik Special train from Chennai on May 22.

“Of the 252 samples of Chennai returnees, 13 tested positive,” said Health and Family Welfare Minister S Pangnyu Phom.

The Health Minister tweeted, “13 new positive cases of COVID-19 has been reported in the last 24 hours out of 252 samples tested. All the samples tested were from Chennai Returnees.”

It was only on Friday, when 14 more Chennai returnees were found positive in the state. However, the biggest cause of concern is that two individuals have tested positive in the state after they were sent back home before the test results were out.

Meanwhile, groups and organisations are also concerned over the alleged mishandling of the situation by health authorities after a person was sent home without the test results declared. The individual from Peren tested positive for coronavirus later.

This comes just days after a similar incident was reported from Tuensang. However, the state government is yet to react on the fiasco.
