Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday sent out a strong message stating that non-bailable cases would be registered against those who flout quarantine norms jeopardizing other people’s lives.

Briefing newspersons, Sarma said that violation of quarantine guidelines is equivalent to attempt to murder. The cases will be registered once the individuals complete their quarantine period.

He stated that ‘non-bailable’ and ‘attempt to murder’ offences will be slapped against those violating quarantine rules.

The health minister’s statement comes in the wake of incidents of violation of institutional quarantine norms by individuals. It needs to be mentioned that some people also fled from quarantine facilities in Sidli in Chirang district yesterday.

Several incidents were also reported where individuals in quarantine facilities created ruckus and even resorted to threatening doctors as well medical staff.

Meanwhile on Thursday, sensation prevailed at a quarantine centre in Guwahati’s Lokhra locality after a person there was found to be COVID-19 positive.

Fear and panic gripped the quarantine facility that has been set up at the NEF College after the news spread out. Several of the quarantined persons tried to break out of the quarantine centre in a state of panic.
