COVID-19: Another biggest single-day spike in India; 6,088 new cases reported in 24 hours

India registered a spike of 6,088 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, making it the highest single-day rise here since the start of the pandemic, according to figures released by the Health Ministry on Friday.

As many as 148 new deaths have also been registered. India’s tally now stands at 1,18,447 cases, 3,583 deaths and 48,534 recoveries. Mumbai recorded 1,382 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, the third-highest single-day jump, pushing its tally to 25,500.

The city also recorded 41 fatalities for the second consecutive day, taking its death toll to 882.

As many as 571 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Delhi in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases to 11,659. This is the biggest single-day jump in the number of cases in the city so far.

Meanwhile, Gujarat’s COVID-19 tally jumped to 12,910 after 371 infections were reported while the toll jumped to 773 following 24 deaths on Thursday. The State continues to see sharp rise with over 300 cases per day for the last two weeks.
