After four COVID-19 positive cases were reported from Guwahati and Kamrup (R) district on Thursday, four areas in Guwahati have been declared as containment zones.

Two PG boys hostels (No 1 and 5) of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) have been declared as containment zones after a post graduate student from GMCH tested COVID-19 positive.

“Dr Likhitesh DS, a post-graduate student of GMCH, who was on screening duty since May 4 had tested positive last night. He is from southern Indian. As he resides in Hostel no 1 and has visited hostel no. 5 to have food a couple of times, both have been declared as containment zones,” said Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

On the other hand, staff colony of B Barooah Cancer Institute (BBCI) has been classfied as a containment zone.

One of the patients, Dipika Nath, had visited BBCI to live with her grandmother who works in the hospital and stays in the staff quarters located within the premises of the institute.

On the other hand, Amiya Nagar area of Kharghuli-Chandmari is another containment zone in the city. Boroda Das, a COVID-19 patient was residing with her daughter near Anuradha Cinema Hall in Guwahati, but returned to Amiya Nagar on May 6. After showing symptoms of COVID-19, she was admitted to Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital (MMCH), from where she was referred to GMCH. Her family has been kept under quarantine.
