A migrant labour from Assam’s Nagaon district who was tested positive for COVID-19 in Maharastra’s Akola district has allegedly committed suicide on Saturday.

According to reports, the 30-year-old individual who was undergoing treatment at a government hospital allegedly slit his throat early this morning.

The individual was admitted to the isolation ward of the Government Medical College and Hospital in Akola on April 7.

It may be mentioned that three persons had tested positive for COVID-19 in Akola on Friday and the deceased is one of them.

Authorities have reportedly termed it as a case of suicide and further probe into the matter is on.

The deceased had reportedly left home nearly a year ago. It has been learnt that the individual also took part in the Tablighi Jamaat event at Nizamuddin which turned into a COVID-19 hotspot in the country.

Meanwhile, the death of the individual has cast a pall of gloom in his native place at South Salpara under Rupohi Police station in Nagaon district.
