Assam enforced a lockdown from 6 pm today as a preventive measure to contain the spread of coronavirus in the state.
Other than Assam, two more States in the Northeast have also been placed under lockdown. Meghalaya and Tripura have also been put under lockdown from today.
In Meghalaya Capital Shillong, streets wore a deserted look as people stayed indoors and business establishments kept their shutters down. Only few vehicles on essential services duty hit the roads.
The Meghalaya Government has constituted an advisory comprising of medical experts for suggestions in tackling the COVID-19 outbreak. This was informed to Northeast Live by Meghalaya Chief Secretary MS Rao following a meeting with medical experts from various hospitals in the State.
Meanwhile, Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong cautioned rumour mongers and violators of lockdown. Tynsong further urged for more self restraint from the people of the State during the lockdown period.
And lockdown came into force in Tripura at 2 pm in the afternoon today. Law enforcing agencies urged the people to stay at home.
Business establishments pulled the shutters down after the lockdown came into force across the State.
