India’s count of coronavirus cases rose to 62 with new positive cases, 8 from Kerala, 5 from Maharashtra, 4 from Karnataka and 1 from Jammu & Kashmir.
A Pune couple, their daughter, one of their co-travellers from a group of 40 on a Dubai trip, and the cab driver who drove the family from Mumbai to Pune on March 1, on their return were among the five confirmed cases in Pune.
The Kerala government went on high alert after eight new cases were reported from the state. The state government has decided to impose severe restrictions, including closure of educational institutions and cinema houses till the month-end, to halt its further spread.
Meanwhile, globally 1,16,177 people have been infected by the virus and 4,295 have died so far as the disease continues to spread around the globe.
Officials of the World Health Organization warned that the threat of a global coronavirus pandemic has now become “very real” as the contagion continued its rapid spread around the world.
