The National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Progressive) or the NDFB (P) led by Gobindo Basumatary formally disbanded on Tuesday.

A special event was organised on the occasion at the NDFB (P) designated camp in Kokrajhar’s district Serfanguri. Leaders of NDFB (P) also paid tributes to their fellow cadres who lost their lives in the 34-year long armed conflict.

Talking to newspersons, NDFB (P) chief Gobindo Basumatary confirmed the development and said that the recently signed Bodo Accord was an achievement for the Bodos and the NDFB as well.

The NDFB (P) chief is of the view that the Accord has resolved the long pending issues of the Bodos and hence there was no need for any struggle in the Bodo heartland.

Gobindo Basumatary also said that in order to work for fulfilling peoples aspirations it is necessary to join politics. He added that members of the disbanded NDFB (P) will work for people by entering politics.

Basumatary further added that though the NDFB (P) has been disbanded, members of the group will form a separate identity in a democratic manner.

It may be mentioned that all the groups of the NDFB had laid down arms on January 30 in presence of Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

The development took place after the last faction of the rebel group NDFB (S) led by B Saoraigwra had returned to the mainstream.

]Subsequent to this, all the four factions of NDFB had signed the historic Bodo Accord with the Centre on January 27 thus putting an end to the decades long Bodo movement.
