The video, which was allegedly posted by an account called ‘Main Admin’ on Facebook showed the tricolour being consigned to flames after fuel being poured on it.
The individual or group that posted the video on facebook stated that the act was carried out by the youths of Hynniewtrep Army to showcase to the world that they wouldn’t bow down before any powerful law of the land.
The Facebook post also referred to the oppression and suppression of minorities in the Khasi and Jaintia Hills by the state government.
The video further showed leaflets with words such as ‘Hynniewtrep Army’ written on it in big letters.
Meanwhile, reacting to the incident, the Meghalaya police said this was an act of sedition and registered a suo moto case against the unknown person for this horrendous act.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma termed the incident as unacceptable and maintained that the culprits disrespecting the national flag will not be spared.
