Meghalaya NPP president WR Kharlukhi has expressed his intent to contest for the lone Rajya Sabha seat provided his party so decides.

Ending all speculations arising out of his candidature, the State NPP president on Wednesday cleared the air by stating that earlier he was unwilling but now he is willing to contest provided his party wants him to. He however informed that the party is yet to take a decision on it.

As per sources, it has been agreed upon that among the MDA coalition, NPP will get to set up a candidate for the Rajya Sabha seat.

On asked about the agreement Kharlukhi feign ignorance and said that the agreement must be among the top leadership.

The election to the lone Rajya Sabha seat in Meghalaya will be held alongside with the other 54 seats to be vacant across 17 States on March 26.

The term of the present Rajya Sabha Congress MP, Wansuk Syiem would end on April 12.
