President Ram Nath Kovind has dismissed Professor Adya Prasad Pandey from the post of the Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University.

As per the latest order issued by deputy secretary to the Government of India, Surat Singh, the President of India, in his capacity as the Visitor of Manipur University, on consideration of facts and materials available on record and reply submitted by Professor Adya Prasad Pandey, Vice-Chancellor (Under Suspension) of Manipur University, has dismissed Pandey from his post as V-C with immediate effect.

Functioning of Manipur University remained paralysed for months during the movement launched by the Manipur University Students Union, the Manipur University Teachers Association and the students demanding the removal of Pandey as the Vice Chancellor.

A.P. Pandey was appointed as the Vice Chancellor of Manipur University in October 2016 and the demand to remove him reached its zenith in 2018.

Pandey was removed on the basis of the report that was prepared by the two member independent enquiry committee comprising of T. Nandakumar Singh, former acting Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court and Professor M.K. Choudhury, former Vice-Chancellor of Tezpur University, which was submitted in May last year.

The report points out that Pandey had failed miserably in performing his duties as the Vice-Chancellor of the Manipur University.
