Major reshuffle in Meghalaya cabinet; James Sangma loses portfolio, Lahkmen Rymbui given charge of Home

In a major cabinet reshuffle believed to have been prompted by the rising allegations of rampant illegal transportation and mining of coal, James Sangma was removed from the Home portfolio on Tuesday.

UDP’s Lahkmen Rymbui was given the charge of the Home portfolio, while James was given additional charge of portfolios like Taxation and information & public relations, apart from power and food & civil supplies.

Apart from the Home Ministry, Rymbui also holds the portfolios of education, forest & environment and border areas development.

The new Meghalaya Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui has assured that all possible steps will be taken by the state government to ensure the public faith is restored.

Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live Rymbui said he would not like to comment on what is wrong at the moment but all efforts will be put in place to correct any anomaly.

He also said that the police will be asked to step up vigil against any illegal activity and steps will be taken to restore public confidence.
